On Tuesday, February 27, 2001, during the 77th Legislative Session of the Texas State Senate, an invocation was delivered that still resonates with the values we hold dear today. The session opened with a powerful prayer from Reverend Dr. Ben Smith of Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville, who offered words of encouragement, humility, and guidance for the senators who had gathered to serve the people of Texas.
